Non Specific & Urgent Suspected Cancer Pathway Consultant/gpwsi

Lincoln, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

The Non-Specific Symptoms Urgent Suspected Cancer Pathway was introduced in Lincolnshire in 2021 to support earlier diagnosis of cancers in line with the NHS Long Term Plan. It is a pathway whereby the GP's, MSK spinal service (and currently SDEC, ULTH) can refer patients with vague symptoms such as appetite loss and unexplained weight loss who do not fit into tumour site specific USC pathways but where the clinician still has a concern of cancer.

We are now looking at a redesign of the pathway and we are currently holding clinical reference group meetings to shape how we do this. This being in order to meet the needs of the Lincolnshire population and bring it into line with the recently updated national guidance. We would welcome clinicians who wish to take part in service redevelopment and improvement of this innovative pathway.

We are looking to appoint 2 x 0.250PA posts at Consultant or GPSWI level to support the service. This post would not meet the minimum threshold to attract sponsorship

The United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) is one of the largest trusts in the country. Through four main hospitals and four additional hospitals where we provide some services, we provide a comprehensive range of hospital-based medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric and gynaecological services to the 750,000 people of Lincolnshire.

We provide a wide range of healthcare services delivered by 7,800 highly trained staff and volunteers. Our services cost over 400m each year to provide and we invest around 18m each year in improving our clinical services by replacing and upgrading our medical equipment, modernising our estate and facilities and improving our information and technology infrastructure. In an average year, we treat more than 180,000 A&E patients, nearly half a million outpatients and almost 100,000 inpatients.
