Aims of Position
To provide a high standard of care and support to the older people, which is delivered in a person centered manner and consistent with the persons plan of care
To be responsible for assisting the qualified nurses on shift with the duties outlined below
To support the qualified nurse in recognising, treating and maintaining a person's health, whether it be physical, emotional, physiological or mental
To liaise with healthcare professionals in the care and treatment of the person
To maintain accurate records produce effective documentation
To achieve positive outcomes that give the person a sense of wellbeing, happiness and belonging whilst promoting independence, dignity and choice
Requirements for becoming Nursing Assistant
All our Nursing Assistants are expected to meet and maintain the Core Competences set out by Eleanor Hodson House Nursing Home. The nursing assistant will be required to have:
QCF Level 3 in Care (or equivalent)
good communication skills
basic literacy and numeracy skills
computer literacy skills
a proven record in the care of the elderly
a desire to provide excellent care through skilled team management.
be able to relate to and care for older people in a sensitive manner
maintain a person's dignity and respect.
have a good knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety issues in Care Homes
demonstrate a sound understanding of the needs of the older person and the role of a Nursing Assistant
the ability to demonstrate that they are willing to undertake and develop their clinical skills and competence relevant to the role.
Care Responsibilities
All prospective Nursing Assistants will be responsible for:
Delivering all aspects of daily care needs for residents.
Delivery of some clinical duties as directed by a Registered Nurse, dependent on your level of assessed competency.
Identifying, recording and referring changes in a resident's health and well-being.
Referring all clinical decisions to Registered General Nurses including referring residents for external healthcare support e.g. GP, physiotherapy.
Ensuring residents attend their external appointments, including liaison with.
Ensuring general care and maintenance of equipment and wheelchairs - reporting issues through the correct channels.
Liaising with health-care professionals and outside agencies.
Recording and maintaining effective documentation by using Fusion.
Further Responsibilities
In addition to their Main tasks, each Nursing Assistant will be responsible for, once competencies completed:
Oral medications, or administering oral medications under the supervision of a Registered General Nurse.
Ensuring accurate recording of medication administration by using the supplied E-MAR's and associated documentation
Delivering specialist dementia care.
Carrying out admissions, discharges and registration administration for temporary residents.
Recording and reporting of care provision on a shift basis
Liaison with multi-disciplinary teams/healthcare professionals and carry out any actions within their remit
Assist with the development, updating and reviewing of care plans, risk assessments and other associated documentation
Liaising with Senior Registered General Nurses and Registered General Nurses ensuring attendance at outpatient's appointments.
Whenever a Nursing Assistant is carrying out an Additional Task, there will always be a Registered Nurse on site s/he can call upon for support and advice.
