Nursery Assistant

Full-Time (43 hours per week) Term Time only



St John's School is seeking a fun, enthusiastic and suitably experienced Early Years Nursery Assistant to join our team in our small, friendly Nursery, which has a maximum of 20 children, aged 2 to 4 years.

We are a welcoming independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 to 16, located on a hill overlooking the sea in the beautiful Regency town of Sidmouth.

You will be trained to a minimum of Level 2 with a fully recognised childcare qualification and be able to demonstrate an awareness of all relevant frameworks, including the EYFS.

We are looking for someone with a passion for early years education and a positive, 'can-do' attitude toward children, parents and staff. You should love the outdoors and be a dedicated team player who values every aspect of school life, ensuring our Nursery remains a safe and exciting environment for children.

Nursery Assistant

Responsible to -

Head of Early Years

Purpose of Post:



?

To assist in the provision of an outstanding setting, contributing to the care,

development, and well being of our children.

?

To give support to all personnel within the Early Years team, working

collaboratively and respectfully with other staff.

? Work alongside experienced staff creating a supportive and safe environment

for children to develop their social, emotional and educational skills.

?

To assist with the implementation of the daily routine within the Nursery, including

support for specialist lessons and events outside the classroom (e.g. Beach School,

swimming or Welly Boot Camp).

Duties and Responsibilities:



?

To contribute to the planning and implementation of appropriate programmes of

activity for the children in collaboration with the Head of early Years;

?

To have a full understanding of the nursery systems of record keeping and keep

records of the children's development, using the nursery system;

?

To assist in the provision of an attractive and stimulating range of equipment,

activities and displays, indoors and out, relevant to the ages and needs of the children,

which encourage independence, self-motivation and eagerness to learn;

?

To assist in the provision of a high quality environment to meet the needs of

individual children from different cultures and religious backgrounds and stages of

development;

?

To share the responsibility for Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all

children in the nursery;

?

To liaise with parents and encourage their involvement in the aims of the

nursery and in all aspects of their child's care;

?

To assist with the domestic management of the nursery, including ensuring that

the nursery is kept safe, secure and clean at all times;

?

Be prepared to help where needed in the preparation or distribution of snacks,

meals, cleaning of equipment etc;

?

To respect the confidentiality of information received;

?

To be aware of the high profile of the Nursery and the school and to uphold its

standards at all times;

?

To be involved in out of working hours activities e.g. training, staff meetings,

Speech day, Summer Camp, half term programmes if required;

?

Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by a senior staff member.

To be familiar with the Early Years Standards and ISI guidelines and

recommendations of good practice and assist in their implementation.

Person Specification:



Recognised Level 2 (or above) Early Years Qualification

GCSE English or equivalent

GCSE Mathematics or equivalent

Knowledge of Early Years

Understanding the development of 2 - 4 year age range

Awareness of Safeguarding and procedures

Awareness of need for confidentiality

Contribute to a range of teaching, learning and pastoral activities

Able to communicate well and establish firm, fair and consistent boundaries

Able to work with occasional challenging behaviours

Able to form excellent, appropriate relationships with children, parents and colleagues

Able to work within a team

Understanding the aims and ethos of our School

Reliable

Sense of humour

Enthusiasm

Show initiative

Motivation to work with children and young people

Able to work flexibly according to the needs of the School

Able to contribute to our developing learning environment.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 12.50-13.00 per hour
