The Nursery Chef will be responsible for serving meals and snacks to all the children at Little Lancing Nursery. Working in a kitchen that is rated highly for hygiene, the post-holder will maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, complying with al the necessary food preparation and storage procedures to keep a clean and well-functioning kitchen. In addition to cooking and serving meals, the post-holder will oversee ordering food supplies within an agreed budget and will be required to work in the College kitchen during the afternoon.
Key Responsibilities
To prepare home cooked meals safely as directed by the School's policies and guidelines as a minimum standard.
To ensure that meals are prepared and presented and ready for service at the published times.
To assist in the service of meals where necessary.
To always maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the food preparation and service areas.
To constantly endeavour to improve the standard of food preparation and to incorporate any new techniques which become available.
To assist at special functions from time to time or as required, some of which may occur outside normal working times.
To assist the main kitchen with preparation periodically, some of which may occur outside normal working times.
To report all customer responses and any incidents of accidents, fire, theft, loss, damage, or other irregularities and to take action if appropriate.
To promote a professional image and good customer relations.
To carry out any reasonable request by the management team.
To attend meetings and training meetings.
To work as part of a team to create a healthy and safe environment.
To carry out all tasks in co-ordination with the safe system of work, assured safe catering and company policies.
To attend the workplace at the required time in the correct uniforms to promote a professional image and good customer relations.
Person Specification
Skills and Qualifications
Must possess relevant professional qualifications or have previous experience in a similar position.
Knowledge of allergens and special diets.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working in a Nursery environment would be desirable.
Terms and Conditions
Hours of work are 35 hours per week, 7.30am - 3.00pm Monday to Friday with a 30-minute unpaid break. There is an option to work overtime at the College when available.
