Job Description

We are seeking a caring and experienced

Nursery Chef

to join our nursery team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for preparing healthy, nutritious, and child-friendly meals, along with a strong understanding of dietary needs for young children. As the Nursery Chef, you will be responsible for planning and preparing daily meals and snacks, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, and ensuring all food is produced in line with current food safety standards and nursery policies. Your role is essential in supporting children's wellbeing and development through nutritious, balanced meals.

Duties



Plan, prepare, and cook healthy, balanced meals and snacks suitable for babies and young children, following approved menus and dietary guidelines. Ensure all meals cater to children's individual dietary requirements, allergies, and cultural or medical needs. Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and organisation in the kitchen at all times. Monitor food stock levels, place orders as needed, and manage deliveries efficiently to minimise waste. Keep accurate records of temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and food safety logs in line with statutory requirements. Work closely with nursery staff to ensure mealtimes run smoothly and support the children's positive eating experiences. Participate in menu planning, incorporating seasonal ingredients and promoting healthy eating habits. Follow all relevant health, safety, and food hygiene regulations (including HACCP procedures).

Requirements



Proven experience as a Chef, Cook, or Kitchen Assistant - ideally within a nursery, school, or care setting. Understanding of child nutrition and portion control for early years age groups. Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above) - Level 3 preferred. Strong knowledge of food safety standards, allergen management, and dietary requirements. Excellent organisational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and efficiently while maintaining high standards. Warm, positive attitude and a commitment to supporting the wellbeing of young children. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to 30,500.00 per year
