Responsible to: Nursery Manager
Main Purpose of the role: Keeping all areas of the Nursery, including all toilets clean and tidy in line with recommended practices for maintaining a COVID-safe environment. This includes washing, dusting, disinfecting, polishing, vacuum cleaning and sweeping as appropriate.
Key responsibilities
o To ensure the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness throughout the nursery in accordance with Environmental Health procedures and Government advice and guidelines on maintaining adequate standards in regards to COVID-19
o Maintaining the highest standards of Health and Safety and contributing where possible to the maintenance of a safe and secure environment
o Wear protective clothing in accordance with COSHH and Health and Hygiene regulations and Infection Control guidelines
o Adhere to Little Aisha's Health & Safety Policy Statements with regard to the health, safety and welfare of self and others whilst at work
o Ensuring that all cleaning equipment/materials are maintained in a safe, clean and efficient working condition out of access by children at all times
o Feedback given to manager where maintenance is noticed and required in order to maintain high standards of cleanliness
o Ensuring that the Manager is aware of the need for replacement or repair of materials and equipment for the satisfactory performance of the duties
o Maintain an up to date knowledge of stock levels of materials and equipment sufficient to ensure that shortages do not prevent cleaning
o To ensure regular cleaning of the storage appliances, equipment and cupboards. Recording in the relevant record books when these have been carried out (including the Nursery kitchen)
o To ensure that All areas and Kitchens are kept and left clean and tidy and cleaning rotas are up to date
o To clean all surfaces of the day nursery including carpets, lino, floors, paintwork, tiles, wallpaper, windows and window cills and to report any maintenance issues that prevent safe and efficient cleaning of these areas
o To remove all rubbish and put in approved outside bins ready for collection and recyclable materials to the relevant position or bin
o To carry out cleaning and housekeeping tasks as necessary To ensure that total confidentiality is maintained at all times concerning information given to you by ourselves, or by the children or their parents
o Sign in and out of the building on starting and ending your shift, and also to be responsible for closing the nursery and leaving it locked and secure over night
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria
o An understanding of Health and Safety at work,(especially relating to the use of chemical products)
o Housekeeping/cleaning experience in business or family setting
o Must be able to demonstrate literacy and numerical skills
Desirable Criteria
o NVQ level 2 in Housekeeping
o Health and Safety certificate
o Completion of other relevant courses
o Previous housekeeping experience within a nursery, school or residential setting
Knowledge
Essential criteria
o Excellent knowledge and understanding of the current legislations in Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Food Standards agency
o Understanding of responsibilities under HASAW, COSHH and infection control
Skills and Abilities
o To communicate effectively through written and verbal communication
o Respect all cultures of colleagues, children and families
o Ability to work individually with and without supervision
o Self-motivated and a positive attitude
