We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Cook to join our nursery. The ideal candidate will have experience in a kitchen within a school or nursery setting, and possess a strong understanding of food safety and meal preparation. This role is essential in delivering healthy, balanced meals for children ages 9 months to 5 years, catering for all dietary requirements. The nursery caters for up to 60 children.
Main duties
Monitor food stock levels and assist with inventory management as needed
When required, purchasing supplies needed and keeping receipts of such expenditure
To be responsible in conjunction with the Manager(s) for planning menus
Preparing a healthy, cooked meal at lunch time
Taking all dietary requirements and allergies seriously, following the processes in place
To co-ordinate the serving of breakfast, the hot lunch time meal, and snacks throughout the day
To ensure all crockery, cutlery and equipment used to prepare meals is maintained and cleaned thoroughly after every use (there is an industrial dishwasher onsite)
To be responsible for hygiene and risk assessment within the kitchen area, including all record keeping relevant to the post, in line with food safety regulations
To be responsible for food safety within the nursery including all safety checks relating to food storage and preparation
To maintain an agreed high standard of hygiene and cleanliness within the kitchen area, including cleaning the floor and removing waste from the bin
Qualifications and Experience
Level 2 Food Hygiene
Food Allergen Awareness
Other valid kitchen qualifications
Previous experience working in a kitchen within a school or nursery setting is preferred
Strong understanding of food safety standards and regulations and experience of implementing these in practice
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
A passion for cooking and creating delicious, balanced meals for our children
Other information
Hours will be Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, with a 1 hour unpaid lunch-break
28 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays)
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: 12.75-14.50 per hour
