We are seeking a confident and caring Deputy Manager to join our small, nurturing nursery in Chalkwell. You'll play a key role in supporting the Manager in daily operations while taking the lead in delivering high-quality care, communication with families, and team coordination.
This is a hands-on position ideal for a strong room leader or experienced practitioner looking to take the next step into management.
Key Responsibilities
Support the planning and delivery of the EYFS curriculum, ensuring each child receives rich, developmentally appropriate experiences
Maintain legal ratios and safeguarding standards at all times
Assist the Manager with rotas, room planning, and daily operations
Take lead on parent communication, including daily handovers and progress updates
Share responsibility for key person duties, observations, and learning journals
Help coordinate daily routines, trips and nature walks (including regular outings to Chalkwell Park)
Support or take responsibility for SENCO, First Aid, or Health & Safety roles as needed
Step up to manage the setting in the absence of the Manager
? Requirements
Level 3 or above in Early Years Childcare
Minimum 2 years' nursery experience (ideally including some team leadership)
Experience as a Room Leader or Senior Practitioner
Strong knowledge of EYFS and safeguarding
Excellent communication and team support skills
A positive, proactive attitude and genuine love of working with children
Paediatric First Aid and basic SEN knowledge are desirable (training provided if needed)
