Job Description

We have a new exciting position available at Sawston Nursery, for a Deputy Room Leader, (Must hold a Level 3 qualification).

This post is available with an immediate staff to the successful candidate and is a full time position, Monday - Friday, working 41 hours and 40 minutes per week.

(Please be aware this post is throughout the year and not term time only).

Sawston Nursery is operated by Sawston Childcare Ltd, a non-profit making charitable company. Sawston Nursery is an Outstanding childcare provider, rated by OFSTED this year, and is only a few miles from Cambridge. The Nursery is purpose-built with excellent facilities for childcare and pre-school education. It is situated in a peaceful road, with free off road parking.

Main Responsibilities



In the absence of the Room Leader or other nominated leader, to be responsible for the designated room management. Assist in the establishing, maintaining and development of a safe, educational 'Learning through Play' environment to enable each child to extend his/her potential, through Early Years Foundation Stage Standards for Care & Education. Assist in the planning and recording of activities/resources offered to each child, ensuring the learning curriculum for the foundation stage is taken into account, maintaining up to date records for designated key worker group. Implement policies and practices concerning childcare, ensuring the individual needs of each child are met. Model 'Best Practice' to room staff and ensure information is shared. Ensure the safety and well-being of each child at all times, being aware of Health and Safety issues. Liaise and communicate with parents, reporting on each child's well-being and development, through observation. Be totally aware of each child's needs and requirements within the designated area. Assist with the training of placement students in childcare and education in their area. Willing to attend all staff meetings and accept training opportunities offered. Prepared to take on any relevant duties determined by the employer from time to time. Responsible for the monitoring and delivery of 'Every Child a Talker' and ensuring all staff keep records up to date and ready for entry when requested by the Deputy Head.

Essential Skills



Must hold a minimum of a level 3 qualification in childcare and be prepared to take on further training. Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding and Food Hygiene (Training can be provided). Have a sound knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. At least 2 years' Childcare experience essential. Lead and manage a team effectively. Knowledge of the OFSTED Standards. Have a clear understanding of the statutory welfare requirements.
