Job Description

We're excited to be recruiting an ambitious Nursery Leader to join our experienced team at our small chain of childcare settings between Newcastle, North Tyneside and South East Northumberland.

The successful candidate will be passionate about the care and education of children, eager to make an impact on, and difference to, the lives of children, whether from vulnerable or privileged backgrounds. They will love spending time with children and will be able to deliver inspirational learning. Excellent communication is essential to work alongside the existing team to achieve the best outcomes for all children and offer an exceptional service to our families.

Purpose of Post:



To provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children in the setting.

To work as part of a strong leadership team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children are safe and can play, develop and learn to the best of their ability.

To build and maintain strong partnership working with parents to enable children's needs to be met.

Duties and Responsibilities:



To lead our teams to effectively deliver the EYFS ensuring that the individual needs and interest of children in the setting are met (in conjunction with other team members)

Safeguard all children and fully understand your role in safeguarding and reporting concerns.

To ensure the teams keep records of key children's development and learning journey and share with parents, carers and other key adults in the child's life.

To role model and train all staff to develop and maintain strong partnerships and communication with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs.

To strengthen our high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children having an awareness of any special needs, disabilities, family cultures and medical histories.

To advise the manager/deputy of any concerns, for example, over children, parents, the safety of the environment and the preserving of confidentiality as necessary.

To ensure and model good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times and be responsible for the Welfare, Health and Safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children

To read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role and the safe running of the setting.

To be fully conversant with the EYFS Welfare Requirements and be fully up to date with the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education

Support and engage in an effective staff team.

To be involved in out of working hours activities, for example, training, staff meetings, social/fundraising activities etc

To be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment, etc.

To liaise with outside agencies as required.

To work alongside the manager and staff team to ensure that the setting's philosophy is effectively fulfilled.

To develop your role within the team, especially with regard to being a leader of a committed staff team

To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff that is acquired as part of the job.

To be aware of the high profile of the setting and to uphold its standards at all times, both in work hours and outside.

Fully follow accident reporting procedures. Ensure the manager/officer in charge is aware of any accidents before the parents are informed.

Participate in the training programmes of a wide variety of students and assisting or training staff (for example, placements and volunteers), by giving guidance & Support

To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the manager.

Essential Skills:



Hold a minimum of a full and relevant Level 3 Early Years and Childcare Qualification, or above, in line with the EYFS statutory requirements. Additional increments are provided for leaders who have level 5 and above in a relevant qualification.

Have an excellent knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage, how to plan effectively for children and be ambitious in your practice

Have a sound knowledge of child development

Be committed to keeping children safeguarded and provide a safe environment

Know how to build excellent partnerships with parents and carers to meet the needs of each individual child

Have excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively with all staff, children, parents and carers and other professionals
