Overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Room Leader to join our team at Banana Moon Day Nursery. This is a key role for someone passionate about early years education, confident in leading a team, and committed to delivering exceptional childcare standards. The successful candidate will lead by example, helping to create a warm, safe and stimulating environment where children can thrive and staff feel valued and supported.

Purpose of the Role

The Room Leader will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of their designated room. Working closely with the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager, they will lead their team in delivering outstanding care, supporting children's development, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. The role also includes mentoring team members, overseeing planning and observations, and playing a key part in building strong relationships with families.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Excellence

Lead your room team to ensure consistent high standards of care and education are maintained. Oversee planning, observations, and assessments, ensuring they reflect individual children's needs and next steps. Maintain appropriate ratios and staffing rotas in line with policy. Support with recruitment and provide feedback on trial candidates as part of a safer recruitment process. Lead room meetings and contribute to nursery-wide initiatives, inspections, and quality improvement plans.

Team Development

Support the induction, supervision, and ongoing development of practitioners and students. Identify training needs and communicate them effectively to management. Role model best practices and provide day-to-day guidance and mentoring to your team. Monitor performance and support professional development through regular feedback.

Health, Safety & Safeguarding

Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and hygiene policies and procedures. Complete risk assessments, daily checks, and relevant documentation to ensure a safe and compliant environment. Administer first aid and medication where necessary, following correct procedures. Report any safeguarding concerns promptly and appropriately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Parent and Customer Relations

Build strong partnerships with parents, ensuring clear and professional communication at all times. Support parents through the settling-in process, sharing developmental progress and involving them in their child's learning journey. Represent the nursery during visits and open days, delivering informative and welcoming show rounds. Maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with professionalism.

Curriculum and Planning

Oversee the planning and delivery of a rich, varied curriculum in line with EYFS. Ensure that learning environments are engaging, inclusive, and tailored to meet the interests and developmental stages of all children. Guide key persons in producing meaningful observations and tracking progress accurately. Monitor children's developmental records to ensure consistency, detail, and relevance.

What We're Looking For

Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years Education or equivalent. Proven experience in a nursery setting, with some leadership responsibility. Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework, safeguarding and Ofsted expectations. Confident, organised, and a natural leader who leads by example. Ability to communicate effectively with children, colleagues and parents alike.
