Part-time 32 hours per week, to be worked over 5 days (Monday - Friday) Fixed term contract - Autumn Term 2025 & Spring Term 2026 Term time only (Independent School)

Purpose of the position



The Nursery Teacher - Maternity Cover (Fixed Term Temporary Contract) will be a passionate and inspiring individual who is keen to make a positive difference to the youngest children in our care. They will have a strong understanding of how children learn and will be confident in how to support children. We are looking for someone to manage a team to provide a safe, caring, stimulating environment for the children, in line with The Early Years Foundation Stage. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and creative team player, who is willing to participate in all areas of school life.

Key responsibilites

To plan rich and stimulating learning activities that achieve good progression in pupils' understanding. To ensure that learning is appropriately differentiated so that the learning is well pitched and all pupils are challenged at their current level of understanding. To create a high quality, rich, stimulating and enabling learning environment containing items that will capture pupils' attention and lead to independent exploration. To make effective use of assessment information on pupils' attainment and progress when teaching and planning future leading. To plan opportunities to develop pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. To set high expectations for pupils' behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well focused, engaging teaching and through positive and productive relationships. To establish a safe, clean and secure learning environment which promotes pupils' confidence. To provide frequent opportunities for pupils to learn through talk and interation. To stimulate intellectual curiosity and communicating enthusiasm for learning. To match the teaching approaches used to the learning and development area of the curriculum and the age of the pupils being taught. To model good language and social skills to children. To listen carefully to pupils, analysing their responses and responding constructively in order to take their learning forward. To select and making good use of the ICT and other learning resources which enable learning objectives to be met. To provide opportunities to develop pupils' wider understanding by relating their learning to "real life". To be familiar with the Code of Practice on the identification and assessment of special educational needs and, as part of the responsibilities under the Code, create and review One Plans for pupils with identified special educational needs. To evaluate your own teaching critically and use this to improve your effectiveness. To be responsible for the line management of EYFS Nursery Nurses and Teaching Assistants in the Nursery including their performance management. To participate in administrative and organisational tasks related to the responsibilities described above. To foster close relationships with parents/carers and the wider community. Assist them to support their child's learning at home. Present a positive image of the school to all other stakeholders. To work with the Headteacher in appointment, allocation and development of staff in the nursery.

Qualifications



Qualified Teacher Status Degree or equivalent At least 2 years suitable experience.

Experience



Experience of line managing Experience of teaching at Early Years Foundation Stage and/or Key Stage 1 Knowledge of the National Curriculum, in particular the Foundation Stage Curriculum Experience of working in partnership with parents

Knowledge



A knowledge of the statutory requirements of legislation concerning Safeguarding, including Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and inclusion A knowledge of the statutory National Curriculum requirements at Key Stage 1 and/or Early Years Foundation Stage Framework Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies in a primary school Knowledge and understanding of how children learn and ability to actively promote and support creativity and independence in learning Knowledge of planning and implementing an effective teaching programme, including the monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting of pupils' progress Clear knowledge of assessment practice and use of data to inform and improve learning and teaching Basic knowledge of Health & Safety Knowledge of child protection procedures Knowledge of procedures and legislation relating to confidentiality
