As Third in Charge, you will support the nursery leadership team and play an active role in maintaining a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment for all children. You will also step into management responsibilities when needed, making this an ideal position for someone looking to build their career in early years leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Nursery Manager and Deputy in the day-to-day running of the setting
Lead and supervise practice in a designated room, ensuring a nurturing and engaging environment
Act as a role model for staff, promoting best practice in care, learning and development
Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Monitor and support staff performance through mentoring, feedback, and development planning
Maintain accurate records, assessments, and documentation in line with safeguarding and compliance requirements
Build strong, professional relationships with children, families, and the wider team
Contribute to operational tasks such as rota planning, resource allocation, and quality assurance
Take on management duties in the absence of senior leaders, ensuring continuity and consistency
What We're Looking For
Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Early Years Education or Childcare (required)
Previous experience working in a nursery setting, with some leadership or supervisory duties
In-depth knowledge of EYFS, safeguarding, and early childhood development
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
A positive, proactive attitude and the ability to inspire and support others
A genuine passion for early years education and a child-centred approach to learning
