Obstetric Sonographer - Insourcing contract (Scotland)
Contract Type: Temporary Insourcing Assignment
Department: 3x Obstetrics & Gynaecology Ultrasound
Reports To: Lead Sonographer / Insourcing Programme Manager
Pay: 600 per Day LTD (Outside IR35)
Start Date: December 2025
Duration: 6 months
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday or Weekends
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Obstetric Sonographer to join our Insourcing Diagnostic Programme supporting Obstetrics and Gynaecology ultrasound services across Scotland.
This short-term assignment will help expand scanning capacity and reduce waiting lists, working within established NHS clinical environments alongside in-house teams.
Key Responsibilities

• Perform a full range of obstetric ultrasound scans, including:

o Growth, velocity, and liquor volume assessments
o Fetal anomaly and NT scans
o General antenatal and follow-up scans

• Provide high-quality diagnostic reports and ensure accurate clinical documentation.
• Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly and compassionately to patients.
• Maintain compliance with RCOG, BMUS, and local clinical protocols.
• Collaborate closely with consultants, midwives, and fetal medicine specialists to support seamless patient care.
• Uphold quality assurance standards, including participation in DQASS cycles and audit processes.
• Adhere to local governance, infection control, and patient safety policies.

Essential Requirements

• PG Certificate in Obstetric & Gynaecology Ultrasound (or equivalent).
• HCPC or NMC registration with sonography qualification.
• Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience performing independent obstetric scans.
• Proficient in NT, anomaly, and growth scanning (this role is not suitable for midwife sonographers limited to NT scans).
• Familiarity with PACS/RIS systems and standard NHS reporting procedures.
• Excellent communication, accuracy, and attention to detail.

Desirable

• Prior experience working in NHS Scotland or similar acute maternity settings.
• Participation in previous insourcing or waiting-list initiatives.
• Flexibility to work across multiple sites within the same regional health board.

Programme Details
This is part of a fully managed insourcing programme designed to support NHS diagnostic departments in delivering timely, safe, and efficient ultrasound services.
Work is available Monday to Friday, 08:45-17:00, with flexibility for weekend or extended sessions.
