Obstetric Sonographer - Insourcing contract ( Scotland)

Pay: 650 Per day (Outside IR35)
Start Date: 01/01/2026
Duration: 6 months
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday or Weekends / Evenings
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Obstetric Sonographer to join our Insourcing Diagnostic Programme supporting maternity and gynaecology services across Scotland.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to reducing scan backlogs while delivering high-quality, patient-centred ultrasound services within a modern and supportive clinical environment.
Key Responsibilities

• Independently perform and report on obstetric, early pregnancy and gynaecology ultrasound scans, following national and local protocols (RCOG, BMUS).
• Provide expert counselling and communication with patients, including discussing complex or sensitive findings in a professional and empathetic manner.
• Support antenatal screening and diagnostic services, including first-trimester screening and anomaly scans.
• Maintain DQASS cycle participation and adhere to quality assurance standards.
• Collaborate effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team, including midwives, obstetricians, and fetal medicine specialists.
• Supervise and support trainee sonographers or students where required.
• Maintain accurate digital records and ensure compliance with governance, infection control, and data security standards.

Essential Requirements

• PG Certificate in Obstetric & Gynaecology Ultrasound or equivalent.
• HCPC or NMC registration with formal sonography qualification.
• Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience performing independent obstetric scans.
• Demonstrated competence in both transabdominal and transvaginal scanning.
• Familiarity with DQASS, RCOG, and BMUS standards.
• Excellent communication, empathy, and clinical judgement skills.

Desirable

• Experience working within NHS Scotland or similar acute maternity environments.
• Familiarity with PACS/RIS systems and electronic reporting.
• Prior insourcing or waiting-list initiative experience.

Programme Details
This position forms part of a fully managed NHS insourcing service, supporting local diagnostic teams to increase capacity and maintain safe service levels.
Flexible sessional work is available, including weekend and evening options, with accommodation and travel covered where applicable.
