About our Occupational Health Service



Our Occupational Health Service is newly launched and is designed to prioritise employees' health and wellbeing from the moment they start work.

The service caters for both internal staff and external clients and includes the full remit of Occupational Health practice including:

pre-employment medical screening management referrals, interviews, and examinations vaccinations - including Tetanus / Polio / Diphtheria, Hepatitis B, and MMR
We are currently in a growth phase and our aim is to continue this growth by expanding our dedicated and experienced team in order to continue delivering an exceptional service for our staff and clients.

Supervision



Regular supervisions on a one-to-one basis including an annual formal appraisal will be held with a line manager. If you are in a patient-facing role, you will also receive regular Clinical Supervisions with a Clinical Supervisor.

About the role



The post holder will:

On a daily basis support the work of the Occupational Health team and liaise with the Service Manager regarding progress and around any areas of difficulty or need. Provide the highest standard of clinical care, ensuring that all clinical standards are met and where necessary taking appropriate corrective action. To participate in relevant training, health education and induction programmes as required. To ensure Continuing Professional Development is achieved in line with NMC and revalidation guidelines Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records in accordance with NMC standards and data protection regulations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



Conduct pre-placement assessments, vaccinations, and immunisations in line with current legislation and guidance. To carry out venepuncture on clients as per policy and procedure based on clinical judgement Provide expert advice and support to managers and employees on occupational health matters, including fitness for work, reasonable adjustments, and return to work plans. To assist with the development of evidence-based practice and organisation of the work of the department. To participate in the development of departmental and ABC Policies and procedures. To assist with the continued development and promotion of the service To promote all aspects of Health, Safety and Welfare in all Occupational Health work undertaken

Departmental Responsibilities



Manage own time effectively. To assist with ensuring that the Occupational Health Service maintains accurate records and storage for its clients in accordance within legal requirements. To take responsibility for personal, professional development, keeping abreast of relevant changes and development of best practise. Ensuring knowledge gained is shared with colleagues. To assist with the induction and orientation of new Occupational Health staff. To act as an effective role model and mentor.

Clinical Responsibilities



To work independently within a multidisciplinary team in accordance with NMC guidelines To work autonomously within a framework of clinical governance and clinical supervision prioritising the delivery of care based on a clinical assessment of individual needs. To develop programmes of care and advise on fitness to work for staff as part of own clinical caseload. To participate in the day-to-day delivery of internal and external services To participate in advising clients on individual health needs directly in relation to pre-employment screening and infection control issues To manage the referral of clients onto other professional disciplines as required. To manage and support staff following incidents of possible exposure to blood borne viruses. Planning and implementing individual care based upon clinical judgment and risk assessment. To maintain clear and accurate Occupational Health records and assist with producing statistical returns related to clinical work undertaken. Participate in the day-to-day delivery of internal and external services and contracts. To contribute to the safety and cleanliness of the department and ensuring appropriate disposal of clinical waste within the workplace in accordance with appropriate policy, procedure and guidelines. To assist in identifying specific health needs within groups To participate in delivering appropriate health promotion needs for individuals and groups. To respond in the event of a clinical emergency. To assist with the provision of statutory health surveillance of staff required under current legislation, reporting on general progress and around any cases of difficulty or need. To advise on and perform pre-employment screening based on assessment of individual's health care needs and the risk factors identified within their working environment and where necessary referring for further OH clinical opinion where a range of options may be available to address employment issues. To assist in the production of pre-employment standards. To assist in the management of the Control of Infection issues amongst staff in line with ABC Infection Control Policies To interpret laboratory information based upon clinical judgement with support from OHP. To undertake individual vaccination and immunisation programmes as directed by the department General Written Instructions using own clinical judgement and evidence-based practice in accordance with national, local and department policies, conducting assessment of individual needs and providing education and advice to ensure informed consent. To carry out venepuncture on clients as per policy and procedure based on clinical judgement and as part of a planned individualised implementation of care.

Person specification: Occupational Health Nurse



Qualifications



Essential:



RGN qualified with valid NMC extensive post registration experience within the Occupational Health field (either NHS or private)

Desirable:



Diploma in Occupational Health practice (DipOHPrac)

Experience



Essential:



Competent in vaccine administration Competent in venepuncture

Desirable:



Experience of assessing pre - employment questionnaires and undertaking subsequent appointments where required
