Job Description

An exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to work within the West Dorset Therapies Team on Melstock Ward. Melstock has recently become a Delayed Discharge Unit; you will have the opportunity to lead in the planning, developing and evaluating of the therap ies provision in line with service developments. Your work will aim to encourage engagement in meaningful and purposeful occupation with people whose lives have been affected by occupational disruption as a result of mental illness.



You will have the opportunity to practice a diverse range of functional assessments, devising creative and meaningful goal orientated interventions both on the ward and in the community , using outcome measures to monitor progress. You will work closely with community resources, offering social prescribing and linking patients into third sector organisations to support with the transition of discharge.



You will receive regular supervision from the Therapies Team Lead and be connected to a peer support network. Ongoing learning and development and regular CPD opportunities will be made available to you.



This post is 12-month maternity cover and will be offered as either a fixed-term or secondment opportunity.



You will be required to provide a high-quality person-centred approach to care delivery that always considers people's safety, privacy and dignity and to deliver person-centred interventions that support patients with their transition back into the community.



Working closely with the wider MDT will be essential to delivering a holistic, meaningful and purposeful level of Occupational Therapy which supports patients on the ward as well as with their transition into the community. Other duties will include liaising with external services, communicating with family members and providing discharge reports for recommendations of ongoing care and support.



This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in service and quality improvement projects, as well as supporting the development of junior staff.



Part-time hours will be considered up to 32 hours a week



As a condition of your employment, y ou will be required to undertake and pass all aspects of a?Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression?course .
