Job Description

East Sussex is a fantastic place to live and work, with its rolling hills and countryside green walks to small coastal towns which have had a recent revival. We are looking for a qualified and HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist to work within our Adult Social Care Operational Eastbourne & Conquest Hospital Community Team.


We have excellent relationships with local partners and hospital trusts. Together we work collaboratively to serve people who have recently been discharged from hospital back to their home in the community or to a temporary residential setting. We promote the home first model and discharge to assess approach and believe with the appropriate safe level of care clients can maintain their independence and stay at home safely where possible. We work closely with our reablement teams to maximize independence and build confidence and positive outcomes for the adults we work with. Where necessary we work with our local Integrated Commissioning Boards (ICB's) to ensure the people we serve get access to continuing health care funding.


It is important to note that the role will include assessing adults in line with the Care Act which will include recommending referrals for provision of equipment and adaptations to enhance independence and reduce risk. The role will involve collaborative working to support our multi-disciplinary approach.


As an Occupational Therapist, you will have a pivotal role in the well-being agenda and inform the interventions needed to meet clients' and carers assessed eligible needs. You will manage and reduce risks, supporting safety in the community.


We are looking for candidates who have:


Occupational Therapy qualification and registration with the HCPC, please include your registration number on your application. Experience working directly with vulnerable adults and their families Experience completing assessments, using legal frameworks, and creating care plans. Experience and knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005), Deprivation of Liberty safeguards and Care Act 2014 S42 Safeguarding. Experience of Court of Protection work would be an advantage in this role. Training is offered to successful candidates.
We will support you to develop the skills you'll need to manage the challenges of this role within a learning environment, built on a culture of continual professional development. As a qualified Occupational Therapist, you will be required to produce annual competencies. Additionally, you will also need to produce a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate development of your skills and knowledge to progress though the salary scale at specific points.


To carry out the role you will need to be willing to develop and implement knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005), the Deprivation of Liberty safeguards. You will also need an understanding of the Mental Health Act (1983), Equality Act (2010). You must be able to implement this legislation in your daily practice. You will also be expected to carry out the Lead Enquiry Officer role for section (42) Care Act 2014, safeguarding duties to protect and mitigate risks to the adults we serve. You will be expected to assess adults in line with our other statutory duties such as Care Act 2014 section (9) assessment using a strength based, outcome focus approach. Experience of Court of Protection work would be an advantage in this role. Training is offered to successful candidates.
