An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic Grade 9 Community Occupational Therapist to join our innovative and friendly Occupational Therapy Service here in Cheshire East. The therapy service is highly innovative and works closely with our health service colleagues with whom we have developed strong partnerships to improve client outcomes for the residents of Cheshire East. Additionally, this role will also provide a wide range of learning and training opportunities and joint working across traditional boundaries.



You will be based in a multi-disciplinary adult social care community team comprised of social workers, OTs, social care assessors and Local area coordinators. This is a hybrid role including home and office based working.

We are looking for experienced Occupational Therapists, ideally with previous experience in a social care role, who are able to support less experienced colleagues.



You will provide assessments and interventions for adults and paediatric clients who present with physical, learning, or mental health needs that impact on their ability to manage within their home environment. Full support and guidance will be offered if you have not worked with paediatrics before. You will be supported if needed to identify if there is any potential for improvement through joint working with other community therapists, the use of equipment and/or adaptations and Assistive Technology devices.



You will be required to identify the long-term needs of service users who require adaptations to their home environment and to consider their functional needs and the potential impact of the built environment and will develop solutions that will meet the client's needs and maintain their independence and safety. Training on Blue Badge assessments will also be provided.



What we are looking for:


Enthusiastic and well-rounded HCPC registered Occupational Therapists with knowledge of health and social care and are keen to learn and develop their skills in all areas of Occupational Therapy.

The candidate should be self-motivated with excellent communication skills and the ability to work both autonomously and within the occupational therapy team and wider MDT. Organisational skills and time management is key to efficiently managing caseloads.

The candidate should be able to provide a strengths-based approach to care and have an understanding of a variety of conditions and their potential impact on individuals.

It will be essential for the post holder to work autonomously within the Council's policies and professional practice, in addition to maintaining accurate and comprehensive client documentation.


The post holder will be based in the South of the Council (Crewe, Nantwich, Congleton and Sandbach) but there may be a necessity to travel to other bases in the Council. Cheshire East Council operates a 'flexible and mobile' working policy and hybrid working is available, with the main base being at Delamere House Crewe with Hubs available within the community.
