Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a band 5 Occupational Therapist to join an established Occupational Therapy team on Ward 5 Neuropsychiatry inpatient service, Harplands Hospital. This post is part time, 22.5 hours per week, fixed term for 12 months from September 2025 to cover maternity leave.



On Ward 5 we provide evidence based, research led, person centred assessment, creating an innovative service. Working in partnership with patients and carers to maximise choice, independence and rehabilitation opportunities for adults with mental health needs as a result of a neurological disorder or brain injury.



You will need to be flexible and willing to work in an acute environment, where prompt assessment and decision making are necessary to facilitate safe and timely discharges from hospital. You will also need the ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) and with community providers.



Our MDT is made up of a wide range of professions with specialist knowledge of the field, this include consultant psychiatrists, nurses, HCSW's, psychology, SALT, OT's & Physiotherapists. The service also works closely with our community neuropsychiatry service to support our service users to reach their potential through assessment of their needs and abilities.



This post will provide an opportunity to work within a Trust that is ambitious to perform well and has been told by the Care Quality Commission that it is the fastest improving Mental Health Trust in the Country.



Provide a clinical and professional service as a member of the Neuropsychiatric Multi-Disciplinary Team [MDT]



Operationally responsible as a clinician for their own caseload and the supervision of staff as required within the Service. This post includes skilled clinical work and requires the post holder to adapt to unpredictable changes and demands on the service.

To promote the involvement of patients and carers in mental health service provision.

Clinical



To assist in the development of local strategies pertaining to Occupational Therapy.

To follow the national Occupational Therapy standards and guidelines incorporating national and local professional strategies and clinical guidelines for the introduction of evidence based practice.

To follow all clinical and professional protocols, standards and care pathways within Occupational Therapy and the service.

To participate in any clinically led research using he principles of evidence based practice.

To assist qualified staff in the provision of clinical supervision.

To act at all times in accordance with the Health Professions Councils Professional Code of Conduct. To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of the post holders autonomous practice. To ensure good standard of clinical practice, maintaining effective caseload management.

To plan, organise, administer and/or supervise occupational therapy goal orientated evidence based practice.

To plan monitor, evaluate and modify treatment

To develop and practice leadership skills.

To apply an understanding of Neuropsychiatric conditions and provide appropriate training and advice.

To work alongside other professions involved with the patient both statutory and non-statutory agencies.
