We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to join our Community Health Occupational Therapy Team as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.You will work as part of our team of experienced Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants to assess and treat adults with a range of conditions within their own homes.The wider South Occupational Therapy Team will support the post holder. The post holder will work under the direction and supervision of a qualified Occupational Therapist and be expected to work under their own initiative to manage a non-complex caseload of community patients appropriate to the role. In return for your passion and enthusiasm, we will offer you all the support you need and help you achieve your career aspirations.Main duties of the jobAs a Band 4 OTAP under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist you will be expected to work on your own and as part of a team focusing on excellent quality patient care including formulating treatment goals and identifying rehabilitation plans. You will be required to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, show initiative and team spirit as well as be committed to patient care. You will be flexible and able to work in a variety of locations in South Staffordshire. An understanding of assessment and rehabilitation appropriate to the role is essential as are good IT skills, knowledge and understanding of criteria for equipment provision. Applicants should have relevant Level 3 (or above) qualification in health care, or education.We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with:

• Keen interest & / or experience of working in rehabilitation services and can demonstrate a strong understanding of therapy and service needs.
• To assess new service user referrals and care/support needs.

• Proactive in developing sound clinical skills in the assessment and management of patients in the rehabilitation and / or community environment appropriate to the role.
• To deliver a high standard of intervention, whilst managing the demands of unplanned aspects of the role.
• Experience of when to escalate to a qualified team member.

• Practitioner level 5 Foundation Degree or equivalent in related subject, or willing to work towards

ExperienceEssential

• Relevant placements/experience to the role including supporting or contributing to assessment and management of individuals with compromised functional ability
• Ability to manage time and caseload effectively
• Working in a team
• Experience of working in Occupational Therapy

Desirable

• Supporting service users, families and carers in dealing with the impact of disability
• Working in a multidisciplinary team

Skills, Knowledge & AbilitiesEssential

• Understanding of Information Governance, Data Protection, Care Certificate HCPC, COT standards and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults
• An awareness of conditions and disease management and their impact on individuals and their carers
• The necessary competences required to undertake this role will be provided (once ratified) as a separate document on appointment. They are derived from skills for health and aligned to national occupational standards. An element of these are: oBasic IT skills o Facilitate the individuals management of their condition and treatment plan o Contribute to the discharge arrangements into the care of other services o Empower families, carers and others to support individuals oFacilitate the individual's management of their condition and treatment plan
