Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a competent and enthusiastic Technical Instructor to join our friendly, well-established Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Service in Northumberland and North Tyneside. You will be based at Hexham General however the post will involve community work and you will be requried to travel between sites. You will work closely with the Occupational Therapists, carrying out assessments and treatment sessions for patients within our service, this may include both clinic and community work such as delivering/fitting equipment in patient's homes, supporting with group work and education sessions and provision of appropriate splints as assessed by the OT to support hand function difficulties. You will be required to work well as part of a team but lone and autonomous working is also required.
Our hours of operation are Mon- Fri, 8-5pm.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience;

  • NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or above/equivalent or the willingness to complete within 12 months of employment or equivalent experience/and or qualifications.
  • Education to GCSE or equivalent.
  • A basic understanding of the philosophy of OT and its various core skills.
  • An understanding of relevant legislative procedures within the OT department,
  • Including Health and Safety at work and Moving and Handling.
  • Ability to work independently or jointly with another member of staff.

  • Carryout assessments and other tasks that have initially been screened by the therapist. This may include minor adaptations and equipment e.g. grab rails, banisters etc. and the completion of pre-operative assessments.
  • To carry out appropriate intervention requesting advice or support as required.
  • To perform any other task requested by the therapist appropriate to their remit, role and responsibilities.
  • Assist the therapist in facilitating safe discharge of patients from care including delivery and fitting of equipment that has been agreed as been needed.
  • Undertake appropriate training as indicated by the therapist specific to the client group encountered.
