As part of their growth strategy, they are seeking an experienced Ocean Freight Manager to further develop their ocean freight services.

Role Overview:

As the Ocean Freight Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and expanding the ocean freight operations at our client\xe2\x80\x99s head office in Bradford. Your expertise in ocean freight management and business development will play a vital role in driving the growth of this department and enhancing the company\xe2\x80\x99s global logistics capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the ocean freight department, ensuring smooth operations and effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to expand the ocean freight business, targeting new clients and markets.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with key customers, carriers, and overseas partners to ensure optimal service delivery.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities, including new trade lanes, market segments, and service offerings.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to provide ocean freight expertise and support in acquiring new customers and expanding existing accounts.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with ocean carriers and suppliers to ensure competitive rates and service levels.
  • Monitor and analyse market trends, competitor activities, and industry regulations to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations, trade compliance, and industry standards in all ocean freight operations.
  • Oversee the documentation process, including import and export documentation, customs declarations, and relevant paperwork.
  • Monitor and manage operational performance, including KPIs, service levels, and customer satisfaction.
  • Mentor and develop the ocean freight team, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their skills and expertise.
  • Stay updated on industry developments, emerging technologies, and best practices in ocean freight management.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in ocean freight management, preferably in a global logistics or freight forwarding company.
  • In-depth knowledge of ocean freight operations, including documentation, booking, routing, customs regulations, and industry practices.
  • Strong business development skills, with a track record of successfully expanding ocean freight services and acquiring new clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with customers, carriers, and overseas partners.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills, with experience in dealing with ocean carriers and suppliers.
  • Solid understanding of customs regulations, trade compliance, and international shipping practices.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyse market trends, identify opportunities, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Results-oriented with a focus on achieving business growth and operational excellence.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and systems used in ocean freight management.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to visit clients, partners, and industry events.
