Syli - pronounced SOO-Lee - supports mission-driven journalism in service of informed audiences around the world. We have a specific focus on climate activities. We are a recently established non-profit (UK community interest company).

We support and advance mission-driven journalism by fostering new, forward-looking concepts and identifying sustainable financial models for journalism. We are creating a healthier, more sustainable media ecosystem for better informed global audiences who are empowered to take action for the benefit of all people, communities and the planet.



We are looking for a capable, experienced and adaptable Office Manager to join our team. In this varied role you will report to the organisation's executive directors and support aspects of our work across the organisation.


The position is for an immediate start and is a hybrid role, primarily working remotely but with in-person meetings in both London and Guildford in Surrey, so you must be within commutable distance to these locations. In-person meetings may be up to six times a month.


You must already have the right to work in the UK. You will need to ensure you have access to a suitable professional and confidential environment with a reliable internet connection to carry out your duties.


The position is full time, Monday to Friday.


This is a fixed term contract ending 31st August 2026. However, pending securing the required funding, there will likely be the opportunity to extend the contract after the first term.


The pay for this role is 34,000 per year.



Responsibilities



General administrative support, including Inbox and diary management and scheduling for director level staff. Handle communications via phone and email both internally and externally, acting as our first point of contact. Book travel and accommodation for colleagues. Coordinate meetings including preparing agendas, presentations, reports, and action notes. Conduct desk based research and gather information as requested. Maintain HR records using an online system, produce HR documentation including contracts, and support staff recruitment and induction processes. Support good governance and risk management of the organisation through working with the Executive Directors to maintain/update policies and procedures, comply with data, health and safety and other requirements, and manage our cloud-based filing and storage. Support and organise training sessions, company away days, and other events.

Qualifications

About You




We have identified what we think you'll need to know and be able to do, and what experience you'll have, in order to do well in this role. A background as an Office Manager, Operations Manager, EA or similar with HR responsibilities gained in a small or rapidly growing organisation is essential, preferably in an international organisation.

Strong organisational and time management skills; can successfully create and keep deadlines, set goals and milestones, manage projects, and prioritise tasks. A capable verbal and written communicator; able to write and speak clearly with accurate spelling and grammar, and listen effectively. Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to prioritise and cope with the demands and respond to emerging needs with a proactive, problem-solving approach. Process driven; excellent attention to detail, can follow procedures and use systems as well as implement new ones. IT skills; capable user of Google's Workspace business apps and collaboration tools in a professional capacity, experienced using Zoom as a host, Self-motivated: able to take the initiative and perform tasks with minimal supervision in a predominately remote-working environment. Professional and reliable; can maintain an appropriate workplace demeanour, uphold confidentiality and respond calmly to stressful situations and changing priorities. Working knowledge of data compliance, including UK GDPR and Data Protection requirements, and experienced in their practical application. Able to support basic financial administration processes such as handling expenses. Experience producing accurate legal documents such as contracts and agreements. Team orientated; you understand the value of teamwork and can play a central role in supporting the team to succeed in their work. The Process
