Job Introduction

Internal vacancy open to Wholetime Firefighters and Firefighters that have passed the On-call to Wholetime migration.


This role has a starting salary of 30,384 per annum plus 10% and Surrey Allowance, based on a 42 hour working week.


We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our Logistics team as an

Operational Equipment Officer.

This newly established role will play a vital part in supporting the Operational Asset Manager and ensuring the readiness and deployment of specialist equipment across the service.



About the Role




This role is key to ensuring that Surrey Fire and Rescue Service continues to deliver safe, efficient, and compliant operational services. The successful candidate will play an active role in the

procurement, rollout, and development of operational equipment and assets

, ensuring all activities align with procurement legislation and organisational standards.


You will lead on the

specification, evaluation, and procurement

of equipment, ensuring that all purchases meet defined requirements and can be tendered and evaluated against robust, transparent criteria.


Working closely with the

Operational Asset Manager

, you will support the

delivery and rollout

of projects--ensuring that timelines are met, budgets are adhered to, and risks are effectively identified and managed. You will also collaborate with other team members to plan workloads, set priorities, and minimise any potential delays.


Strong

communication

will be essential, as you will liaise with communications teams and management to keep all stakeholders informed of project milestones, training plans, and key documentation. You'll ensure that both frontline crews and senior managers are aware of upcoming developments and understand where to raise any issues or defects.


The role also involves producing and maintaining

documentation

--including Risk Assessments, Equipment Usage Guides, Asset Marking records, and Training Materials--to ensure compliance with operational, health, and safety requirements.


Finally, you will contribute to

research and development

activities, exploring new appliances and associated equipment. This includes forming and leading working groups to assess innovation and drive continuous improvement across the service.

Knowledge of operational equipment

used within the fire and rescue service, with an understanding of its application and maintenance.

Knowledge of asset marking processes and associated software systems

, ensuring accurate tracking and compliance.

Understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation

and its practical application within the workplace.

Experience of working effectively within a team

, communicating clearly and professionally with colleagues, partner agencies, service providers, and members of the public.

Experience of interpreting and applying relevant information

to make sound, evidence-based decisions that reflect organisational priorities and requirements.

Experience of managing changing priorities and dynamic situations

, maintaining focus and delivering results under pressure.

Qualifications



Full UK Driving Licence

, including

LGV entitlement

.

Specialist driver qualifications

- such as Unimog, Water Carrier, ALP (Aerial Ladder Platform), TL (Turntable Ladder), or MRV (Multi-Role Vehicle) driver.

Training and Assessment Qualification

(or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe).
