We're seeking an Operations and Transport Manager to play a pivotal role in establishing and running our new Boarstall depot. This is a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and wants to shape the future of a growing logistics operation.
The Role
As Operations and Transport Manager, you will oversee the full transport and warehouse operation, ensuring our concrete hire products are delivered, collected, and managed efficiently and safely.
You'll manage vehicle scheduling, inbound/outbound logistics, inventory control, and staff resources initially a small but growing team of one HGV driver and one warehouse operative supporting a 24/7 operation when required.
You'll also be responsible for ensuring all activities are legally compliant, safe, and in line with DVSA and Health & Safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Operations
Manage day-to-day transport and warehouse operations, ensuring on-time nationwide deliveries and collections.
Plan and optimise vehicle routing, scheduling, and dispatch.
Ensure compliance with DVSA legislation, vehicle maintenance, tachograph, and Working Time Directive requirements.
Continuously review transport processes to improve efficiency, service quality, and compliance.
Maximise utilisation of vehicles, staff, and external hauliers to meet demand.
People Management
Lead, motivate, and develop a small operational team.
Set clear objectives, manage performance, and promote a culture of accountability and excellence.
Maintain high standards of Health & Safety and operational discipline across the site.
Planning & Resource Management
Balance transport and warehouse resources in line with workload and customer requirements.
Optimise routes, delivery schedules, and staffing levels to minimise cost and maximise efficiency.
Respond flexibly to operational issues, including occasional work outside standard hours.
Warehouse & Stock Management
Oversee all inbound/outbound stock movements and documentation.
Maintain effective stock control, record-keeping, and reporting.
Ensure a clean, safe, and efficient warehouse environment.
About You
Full UK Driving Licence (HGV licence preferred)
CPC (Road Haulage) qualification - essential (you will be the nominated Transport Manager on our Operator's Licence)
2-3+ years' experience in a Transport Management role
Working knowledge of transport management systems, tachograph analysis, and multi-drop operations
Up-to-date knowledge of UK transport legislation
Proven leadership and people management skills
Strong administrative, organisational, and communication abilities
Counterbalance FLT certificate - desirable but not essential
Experience managing Health & Safety within a warehouse or depot environment
Flexible approach to working hours and occasional travel
