to join our TrainCare Centre operations. If you've got a head for safety, a heart for teamwork, and a passion for keeping everything running smoothly, this could be just the ticket for you.
You'll lead and support a busy team, making sure our fleet moves safely and efficiently through the depot. You'll also play a key part in developing your people, keeping our standards high, and ensuring everything is logged and tracked using our console systems.
It's a critical role, right at the heart of our engineering operation--one that keeps our trains clean, safe, and ready to serve communities across the North.
Can you see yourself:
Leading from the Front:
Taking charge of day-to-day operations, guiding your team to safely manage train movements and deliver a reliable depot service. You'll be the go-to person for console duties.
Owning the Console:
Coordinating depot activities using our console systems--tracking real-time movements, planning resources, and keeping everything running like clockwork.
Supporting Your People:
Motivating and developing your team, managing performance, and making sure everyone has the training, tools, and confidence to deliver their best.
Driving Safety & Standards:
Promoting a strong safety culture, completing audits, and ensuring all activity meets company and regulatory standards.
Improving How We Work:
Spotting ways to improve processes, supporting innovation, and helping deliver on TrainCare Centre goals.
Are you:
A People Leader?
You've got the skills to manage, motivate and develop teams in a fast-paced, operational environment.
Experienced in Depot Operations?
You've worked in a rail depot or similar setting and understand how to manage train movements and operational logistics.
Confident with Tech?
You're comfortable using systems like movement consoles and can pick up new tools and tech quickly.
Safety-First?
You understand the importance of safety, compliance, and environmental standards--and you lead by example.
Highly Organised?
You can manage rotas, plan ahead, and stay calm under pressure when priorities change.
Looking to Grow?
You've got (or are willing to work towards) your PTS, IOSH and other relevant qualifications, and you're ready to develop further in your career.

Back in 1825, the first passenger train set off in the North of England, after which rail quickly spread across the globe - and this year, we're celebrating 200 years of the modern railway. As we look back on the historic events that led us here, we also look towards the future as we move into the era of Great British Rail. Join us at this pivotal moment in rail history and play your part in our journey.
A place for everyone
The best journeys happen when everyone feels welcome on board.
At Northern, we don't just move people from A to B - we're building a team where everyone feels they belong. Our talent team can make reasonable adjustments to the process if that's something you need. We're also a Level 2 Disability Confident employer, so if you meet the minimum criteria for the role, we'll always offer an interview.
We automate parts of our screening process to remove any unconscious bias and to make sure every application is treated fairly. All successful offers will be subject to a medical assessment.
No matter your background, experience, or whether you call it a bap, barm, or cob... there's a place for you here in the railway.
