About the role (External)
? What You'll Be Doing
As an Operative specializing in
Signalling & Telecoms
, you'll be trained to work with a wide range of equipment that controls train movements--such as signals, level crossings, and points systems. Your work will directly impact the safety and efficiency of the railway, and you'll gain valuable experience across manual, electrical, and digital systems.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Collaborating with your team to carry out essential maintenance and repairs.
Preparing vehicles and equipment before each shift to ensure everything is ready and safe.
Driving your team between work sites and transporting tools and materials.
Performing lookout duties to protect your team from oncoming trains and other hazards.
Working outdoors in all weather conditions, often in physically demanding environments.
What We're Looking For

You don't need previous rail experience--what matters most is your attitude, your willingness to learn, and your ability to work safely and effectively as part of a team. Essential Criteria:
A qualification or demonstrable knowledge in engineering, electrical, or electronic systems (e.g. City & Guilds, GNVQ, National Diploma, or equivalent).
Experience working in environments where safety is a top priority.
A full UK driving licence (Category B), as you'll be required to drive company vehicles.
Willingness and ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and on-call duties (if applicable).
Ability to commute to your designated location within 60 minutes.
Successful completion of pre-employment checks, including drug and alcohol testing, medical assessments (hearing and eyesight), and BPSS clearance.

Online Psychometric Testing
If you pass the initial screening, you'll be invited to complete a series of online assessments (approx. 45 minutes). These help us understand your strengths and working style. Your results will be stored for six months and can be used for future applications.
Assessment Centre
If shortlisted, you'll be invited to an in-person or virtual assessment centre where you'll meet our team and take part in practical and behavioural exercises.
