Job Description

The A&E Department of the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) has a full time vacancy for a Staff Nurse. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who would like to work in this busy and fast paced environment. A keen interest in ophthalmology is essential, previous experience is not essential as training will be provided. Shift patterns include a combination of Early and Late 5 days a week or Long Days 3 days a week, but no Night Shifts.



As the Ophthalmic Staff Nurse you will be responsible for



Clear documentation of patients' current and past ophthalmic history and other assessment information



Obtain visual acuity on adults and children using various vision testing charts



Administration of medication (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous, subconjunctival and topical)



Eye irrigation



Vital signs, blood glucose monitoring and measurement of intraocular pressures



Application of eye pad and cartella (eye shield)



Support senior staff/colleagues, clinicians and other members of the multidisciplinary team



Manage a cohort of patient in the Urgent Care Clinics



Participate in internal meetings and contribute to the betterment of the department
