Role description:
Analyse database activity (DBMS errors, daily DBMS space diagnostic checks, DBMS growth, non-application related performance, resource limits, backup process, security and compliance)
Propose improvements to optimise configuration and performance
Provide administration support for incidents, problems and changes and perform database shutdowns and restarts
Collect database statistics, create ad hoc reports and data extracts
Apply fixes and patches to address security vulnerabilities and conform to vendor recommendations
Manage system users and groups (create and modify DBMS user IDs) and populate the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) with database configuration items in the ITSM tool
Manage access control for DBMS in line with Sellafield security baselines; collaborate with the customer on security monitoring and corrective actions
Monitor scheduled housekeeping jobs, perform regular maintenance and clean-up of the database environment, and ensure correct functioning of tasks
Handle backup, restore, archiving and deletion processes

Detailed knowledge of the database layer architecture of applications and schema mapping
Knowledge of database administration, configuration, clustering, optimization and access management
Knowledge of Configuration Management
What you will need:
Comprehensive knowledge of database concepts, data modelling and database applications, with ability to apply knowledge across COTS and bespoke applications
Solid understanding of Corporate, Industry and Professional Standards
Experience with Oracle Database
