Job Description

The Diabetic & High-Risk Foot Service is seeking a motivated Orthotist who is looking for a unique opportunity.



The successful applicant will join our already long-established therapeutic footwear team, specialising in a complex caseload of diabetes. The post involves working alongside a dynamic team of Diabetes Specialist Podiatrists and Footwear Specialists to provide optimum care and play an essential role in a multi- disciplinary approach to patient treatment plans. The post holder will be instrumental in ensuring that our forward-thinking footwear team continues to deliver a high-quality clinical therapeutic footwear service and excellent patient outcomes.



This is a countywide post based in Northamptonshire. Assess and manage the on-going care of an agreed caseload of patients within the specialist area. In particular, care will be provided to patients with:



Late/end stage complications arising from diabetic foot disease and inflammatory arthropathies resulting in complex deformities requiring therapeutic footwear provision. Circulatory and neurological deficits and reduced tissue viability (e.g. pressure ulcers), requiring specialist off loading and footwear Complex medical conditions, (e.g. Peripheral vascular disease), that significantly impact foot pathology.

The post holder will be responsible for a defined caseload, primarily consisting of patients with diabetes and have associated complications. They will be expected to communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals and the diabetes multi-disciplinary team.



Prescribe therapeutic stock and modified stock footwear and be actively involved in the provision of made to measure footwear.



To participate in the education, training and supervision of other staff in association with therapeutic footwear.
