Hours:

Part time position at 20 hours a week (2x 7.5 hour shifts, one 2 hour meeting, and 3 hours of training per week).

Our mission is to empower people through community engagement, harm reduction strategies, and accessible support services. We work directly with vulnerable individuals, helping them break cycles of addiction and social exclusion.

Main Purpose of Role:



As an Outreach Worker, your duties will include offering comprehensive support and guidance to individuals who are struggling with substance misuse. You will be required to engage with individuals affected by substance misuse, homelessness, mental health and rough sleepers. Your role will include providing Outreach activities to engage and support individuals struggling with substance misuse, particularly those who might not access services by providing support, advice and intervention. The role involved facilitating group sessions, guiding discussions and managing group dynamics to promote open communication, collaboration, and the achievement of shared goals

Key Responsibilities:



Support Outreach activities. Support the Outreach team in prepping all the materials and resources for the Outreach. Support stalls, welfare checks and visits to hotspots. Conduct street-based, venue based outreach in areas of high substance misuse activities. Support the collection of donations and the preparations of sandwiches to give out on Outreach. Provide tolls and resources that can minimize the negative consequences of substance misuse including harm reduction information and Naloxone. Set up stalls in the community to educate the public about the risks and consequences of drug use and promote harm reduction. Support individuals with referral to partnership organisations. Monitor safety, wellbeing, and engagement in activities. Be able to assess risks during Outreach activities including safety of clients, team members and the community. Monitor and reassess risks regularly, adjusting strategies as needed. Submit a report after your shift. Maintain accurate records of engagements, interventions and outcomes in line with confidentiality policies.

Peer Support:



Providing emotional and practical support during Outreach. Offer empathetic listening and understanding to the individual facing substance misuse challenges. Practice active listening to be able to sign-post individuals to the relevant services that meets their needs. Offer a bespoke service. Build trusting, non-judgmental relationships to encourage individuals to access support services and seek support. Encourage individuals to attend the Service by explaining its benefits and informing them that the team can safely escort them there. Based on what the individuals need, offer them food, hot drinks, clothes, toiletries etc.

Group Facilitation



Facilitate structured and purposeful group sessions focused on harm reduction, recovery support, health education, and peer engagement. Guide discussions in a way that encourages open communication, mutual respect, and shared learning among participants. Manage group dynamics effectively to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all individuals. Adapt facilitation style and content to suit the needs, backgrounds, and engagement levels of diverse participants.

Additional Responsibilities:



Deputise for the Team Leader as needed. Assist with any ad-hoc duties requested by the CEO or Peer Lead.

Person specification



We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in supporting adults who have experienced homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges. It is essential to have training or certification in mental health, addiction, or peer support. The ideal candidate will have a full UK driving licence. Experience working with vulnerable adults, with any clinical experience in this field considered desirable. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to solve problems, listen actively, and demonstrate empathy. The candidate must be capable of fostering a safe and calm environment, maintaining effective professional relationships, and handling sensitive matters with discretion. They should be able to work independently, show initiative, and demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. Personal qualities such as empathy, calmness, and understanding are vital to this role.
