Job overview

----------------

Hours: Full time, year-round (8.00am-5.00pm, Monday to Friday in term time; 9.30am-4.30pm during school holidays)

The role

Emanuel School is seeking an experienced and professional PA to provide high-level support to our Operations Director. This is a busy and rewarding position at the centre of school life, requiring excellent organisation, discretion and the confidence to manage multiple priorities with ease.

The Operations Director has wide-ranging responsibilities, from overseeing the school's estate and health and safety to managing commercial activities and major projects. As their PA, you will play a vital part in ensuring these areas run smoothly. You will manage a demanding diary, prepare agendas and minutes for key committees, draft correspondence, and act as a first point of contact for colleagues and external stakeholders. You will also provide support to the Business & Lettings Manager and take a lead in line managing our Receptionist and Resources Officer.

About you

We are looking for a highly capable PA with proven experience of supporting at a senior level. You will be confident handling sensitive information, skilled at managing competing demands and able to remain calm and solutions-focused under pressure.

Strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail and advanced IT proficiency (particularly Microsoft Office and SharePoint) are all essential. The ability to build strong working relationships across the school community, combined with resilience, flexibility and a positive approach, will be key to your success in this role.

In return, you'll join a supportive and collaborative team, with the opportunity to play a central role in the smooth running of one of London's leading independent schools.

Working at Emanuel

There is always a sense of energy and purpose at Emanuel. Colleagues take pride in their work and, like our pupils, are ambitious for the school and for one another. Regular opportunities for connection - from weekly staff briefings and half-termly staff meetings to consultative group discussions and a vibrant common room committee - ensure that everyone's voice is heard, and that we remain united in pursuing our shared aspirations.

We celebrate every success as a collective achievement, recognising the contribution of each colleague in creating an environment where pupils and staff alike can thrive and grow.

Life at Emanuel is busy and rewarding; all colleagues can expect to work hard and be inspired by a shared commitment to excellence. Yet our ethos remains warm, grounded, and empathetic, with a strong sense of connection and genuine care for one another. Ours is a community where friendships flourish, individuality is valued, and every member is supported to succeed.

We aim to look after our staff well: we have an appraisal scheme with a focus on employees' professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer salary sacrifice childcare vouchers through TEDS Premier, we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we're committed to supporting staff wellbeing. Financially, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.

ISI Inspection Report April 2023

Welcome to Emanuel

We are a vibrant, fully co-educational school of over 1,100 pupils aged 10-18, supported by more than 200 dedicated teaching and support staff. Emanuel is a community driven by aspiration: our pupils, colleagues, and families share a commitment to excellence, personal growth, and lifelong learning.

This ambition is reflected in our record-breaking achievements. In 2025, 46% of GCSE grades were awarded the top grade 9, with 75% at 9-8 and 91% at 9-7 - the best results in the school's history. At A Level, over 70% of grades were A-A, with nearly a third awarded A. Emanuel is now recognised as one of the leading fully co-educational schools in the country. The latest ISI Inspection report stated: "Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes."

Our aspirations extend far beyond the classroom. We nurture talent in every field, with a deep commitment to sport, the arts, and STEM. We invest significantly in our facilities, including a 30 million STEM and Refectory building currently underway, which will provide state-of-the-art science labs, maths classrooms, and vibrant social spaces. Our creative arts provision has earned national recognition, including the Independent School of the Year for Performing Arts (2023), while our work in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion won the Talk Education Award (2024).

Connection lies at the heart of Emanuel life. Our thriving partnerships programme creates meaningful links with the wider community, welcoming over 1,000 primary school children to our site each month to learn alongside our pupils. This work was recognised with the Independent School of the Year Award for Community Outreach (2021).

Empathy shapes our culture. Emanuel is a positive and welcoming environment where every individual is valued, supported, and encouraged to thrive. Our talented and dedicated colleagues share a belief in the power of kindness, collaboration, and personal fulfilment. Together, we ensure that staff and pupils alike enjoy a sense of belonging and shared achievement.

We wish you the very best of luck with your application.
