Job Title: Packhouse Manager

Reports to:

Managing Director

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Packhouse Manager to oversee the efficient operation of our fresh produce packing facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team, ensuring production targets are met, maintaining quality standards, and driving continuous improvement. This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the packhouse, ensuring efficiency and productivity. Lead and manage a team of Assistant Managers, Line Leaders, and packhouse staff. Ensure that all produce is packed to meet quality standards, customer specifications, and compliance regulations. Monitor workflow and implement strategies to optimize efficiency, minimize waste, and reduce costs. Ensure all health & safety, hygiene, and food safety standards are adhered to. Coordinate with the procurement, logistics, and sales teams to align packhouse operations with business needs. Maintain and improve packhouse equipment, ensuring all machinery is in good working order. Develop and implement training programs for staff to enhance performance and efficiency. Provide coaching and support to the team. Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Skills & Experience:

Previous experience in a packhouse management role within the fresh produce or food industry. Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience in supervising a diverse team. Excellent understanding of quality control, food safety, and compliance standards. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing demands. Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with packhouse management software (desirable).

Working Conditions:

The role involves working in a fast-moving, temperature-controlled environment. Flexibility is required, as working hours may vary based on business needs and seasonal demands.
