We are recruiting Nurses/ODP to join our exceptional theatre team.
Children's Hospital for Wales cares for all paediatric patients requiring surgery. The roles in Theatre consist of scrub practitioners, anaesthetic practitioners and Recovery Practitioners.Recovery Practitioners are experts in post anaesthetic care, delivering specialised care to patients. They have a depth of knowledge related to pain and airway management and transition those patients from the acute theatre setting to the ward or escalate to critical care.

Main duties of the job
To assess pain, ensuring that the patient has received appropriate analgesia prior to their return to the ward. This will include routes such as IV administration, orally, rectally and intramuscularly if needed. Also via the use of PCA's, epidurals, local nerve infusions of which training will be given.
Manage the patient's airway safely until they are able to do so themselves. Inform the anaesthetist or surgeon of any changes in the patients condition.
To nurse ventilated patients in recovery prior to transfer to Critical Care under the supervision of the anaesthetist should the need ever arise.
To be aware of emergency call system should any patient's condition deteriorate rapidly and assist the responding team.
To hand over the patient to a qualified nurse on ward as per policy, including all items in situ and medication necessary.
To liaise with Critical Care on the availability of beds for patient transfer according to department policy. Look after these patients for an extended stay if necessary until bed available.
Informal visits are always welcome on arrangement. We would encourage both nurses and ODP's to apply.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
