SEN Legal is a long-established specialist education and disability law firm, representing clients across England.

We act on behalf of parents and young persons in applying for EHC needs assessment requests, SEND tribunal appeals, disability discrimination claims, judicial review claims, social care and other related matters, alongside attendance at annual reviews. ?

We also provide advice to schools, colleges and academy groups with regards to funding consultations, non-payment of fees by local authorities, disability discrimination, annual reviews and potential judicial review claims and proceedings.

At SEN Legal, the main duty of the role of paralegal is to provide support to solicitors and assist in the management of client cases. You will be allocated your own cases on which you will be expected to take responsibility, working alongside the solicitor and manage the day-to-day correspondence and developments relating to the client's case.

Tasks associated with the role:

To liaise closely with our clients at all times so that they are kept fully informed. This will be by telephone, email, virtual platforms and occasionally face to face. To ensure accurate case management records at all times. To ensure that our case management software and email system are kept up to date with all key dates and deadlines. To monitor all deadlines on assigned cases and liaise with the solicitors as to their compliance.? Undertake instructions as given by the solicitor in an efficient manner, to ensure good management and the smooth running of all cases. To lodge SENDT appeals as and when required. To send out 'provision of place' forms as required. To work with schools to gather evidence to support a client's case. To submit GDPR requests as required, and to sift records received under guidance of the solicitor. To draft FOI requests as required. To assist with the preparation of evidence and liaise with expert witnesses as to timescales. To serve additional evidence as required. To draft 'requests for change' to SENDT as they arise. To liaise with counsel and counsel's clerks as to upcoming Hearings. To arrange conferences and prepare instructions to counsel. To collate bundles that are compliant with the necessary practice directions in SENDT, the administrative court or the court of protection. To arrange any meetings that may be required during the course of a case.??
Somebody with experience of working in the field of special educational needs/education law or with previous Paralegal experience is desired but not required, as full training will be given.

The role would be suited for somebody who is an excellent team player, eager to learn about a dynamic and fast paced area of law and who has empathy and understanding. The suitable candidate will be organised, proficient in IT and have excellent time-management skills.

This is a full-time role based in either our Bury St Edmunds office for 5 days a week or our Cambridge office for 3 days a week and our Bury St Edmunds office for 2 days a week. Once the required standard has been met, the role is able to be hybrid working with 3 days in the office and 2 days remotely, if desired.
