Background
An opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal to join the Financial Mis-Selling team.
This rapidly expanding team deals with a variety of litigated claims and Ombudsman complaints relating to a wide variety of financial and insurance products.
The areas covered include mis-sold pensions, mortgages, investments, finance contracts, and energy contracts as well as cases relating to unregulated collective investment schemes and business interruption insurance.
Most of the claims that the team deals with are litigated but the team also handles claims to the Financial Ombudsman Service, Pensions Ombudsman and Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
The Role
This role will involve working closely with the various solicitors in the team to progress client cases to include: -
Dealing with initial enquiries and undertaking preliminary risk assessments.
Arranging client retainers and dealing with client queries.
Considering documents, preparing pre-action letters and/or letters of complaint.
Litigation support including drafting of witness statements and assisting with disclosure reviews.
Dealing with client updates.
Arranging client award payments and matter billing.
This role will ideally suit an individual with a law degree or similar academic achievement.
The ideal candidate will be IT literate with good interpersonal skills as the role will involve a lot of client contact over the telephone. The ability to work well in a team is essential along with a proactive approach to work ethics.
Strong organisational skills are also required as is the ability to work under pressure in order to meet tight deadlines.
The role will involve communication with clients via the telephone, video calls and email, therefore strong written skills and an empathetic manner are essential for this position.
The individual will also have sound organisational, time management and negotiation skills as well as a good eye for detail.
