We are seeking to recruit a paralegal to join our successful immigration team which is highly regarded and rated as a national leader in all aspects of immigration, asylum and nationality law. We act for clients from all over the world, from a diverse and growing client base, in all areas of immigration and related law. The post holder may ultimately be considered for a training contract at a later date following an internal recruitment process (though there can be no guarantee of a trainee vacancy).
OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The role will consist of assisting the team with case preparation, including legal research, client liaison, drafting statements, processing evidence, collating and ordering documentation evidence, attending conferences and court, and assisting with legal aid applications Much of the work will involve asylum / human rights applications and appeal preparation, in particular for publicly funded clients.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
At least 1 year's immigration law experience;
Experience of public funded work and legal aid processes;
Accreditation through the Law Society's IAAS as Caseworker Assistant required - Senior Caseworker level would be an advantage.
You will also need to:
be highly motivated, proactive, self-servicing, enthusiastic,
have excellent communication, organisation and administrative skills,
have a flexible and professional attitude,
be able to work on confidential matters and under pressure together with a keen eye for detail.
In order to be able to work fully within the team, the post holder will be expected to be accredited at Senior Caseworker (or able to achieve Senior Caseworker accreditation quickly) within the Law Society's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme. At a minimum, the post holder will have to be accredited as a Caseworker Assistant before commencing employment and any offer of employment will be subject to this requirement.
As we work with separated children, you will also have to undergo an enhanced DBS check, as this is a requirement of the Legal Aid Agency.
