West Berkshire Council's Public Protection Service is seeking a Paralegal to work within the Case Management Unit to provide essential legal support in processing the range of regulatory services offered by the Public Protection Service, including Trading Standards, Environmental Health and Licensing.
The Role
As a Paralegal, you will be responsible for:
Providing legal support and assistance in the processing of cases, including drafting legal documentation, and conducting research.
Working closely within the Case Management Unit to ensure effective case management and compliance with legal requirements.
Assisting in the preparation of documents for legal proceedings.
Advising and supporting the Public Protection Officers and Partner Authorities on legal issues relating to enforcement actions.
Maintaining accurate records and databases, ensuring information is properly organised and accessible.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
A good understanding of legal principles and procedures, particularly in relation to criminal and regulatory enforcement.
Previous experience working in a legal environment, ideally within a public sector or regulatory context.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and prioritise tasks effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal information in a clear and concise manner.
Attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and record-keeping.
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, collaborating with legal professionals and service areas.
Proactive and self-motivated, with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Please note this role is fixed term for a year after start date - Interim support (short term organisational change)

You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement starting at 28 days per annum (plus public holidays) Rising by an additional 5 days after 5 years' service.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week. The maximum salary for this role is 32,061 per annum, pro rata for part-time hours.
