The role will involve:
Delivering specialist autism support through a pilot programme of 1:1 and peer support sessions to military families with an autistic child/young person in Torfaen and across Wales
Working closely with DMWS and other advocates to build trust within the community, allowing wider welfare needs to be addressed
Jointly facilitating a seminar with DMWS to share the lessons learnt more broadly
This support will be open to families of a child/young person with an official autism diagnosis and well as those who have not yet received a diagnosis.
Key Accountabilities:
Programme development and management
Shape and lead the programme, working in partnership with DMWS to deliver it. DMWS will provide specialist welfare support through our professional Welfare Officer in Wales and provide referrals to the project for Armed Forces families
Improve access to support for families, through information, training, advice & guidance, responding to the changing needs of service users
Provide access to skills development to enable family carers to better plan for the future and enhanced their employability
Co-produce a toolkit with families through support insights. This will help ensure the support that they need is available during uncertain times and prepare them for the future.
Enable DMWS to link families with their UK-wide network of welfare staff and projects which will benefit families who may be relocating in joining up their care and keeping them linked in with support
Relationship management
Engage with affected families to recognise and address the specific needs of the families of wounded, injured and sick serving personnel and/or Veterans with an autistic child/young person
Work with the DMWS Welfare Officer and Clinical Lead Account Manager to confirm the quality, format and extent of provision of services
Create and facilitate a network for targeted parent / carer peer to peer support within the region
Make information available to local military bases in Torfaen, Cardiff and Newport
Coordinate scheduled and ad hoc feedback from stakeholders about current and future service provision
Build a credible and productive relationship with the Chief Executive, Trustees and Hope GB administrative staff
Delivery
Ensure the fulfilment of all requirements for this funded programme of activity, including the opportunity for DMWS to use their military expertise to refer people into the service
Offer the parent /carer a package of care to access sessions with our service to learn about autism spectrum conditions and how to support an autistic individual in daily life, how to take care of themselves as a carer and what practical and financial support they may be eligible for which would alleviate money worries.
Remove barriers to access by being flexible in delivering support over the phone, video call or in person. Our service would also offer sessions during the daytime or evening
Make information available electronically and in printed form (including in the Welsh language). Leaflets would also be provided in Welsh language.
Ensure compliance with all Hope GB policies, which includes meeting health and safety and safeguarding expectations
Collect and manage all service user information in a GDPR compliant manner
Provide internal and external communication content and case studies relating to the service in a sensitive, accurate, engaging and timely way
Optimise the use of time and other scarce resources to maximise impact for the community being served

Accountabilities also include a responsibility on behalf of the job holder to undertake any other duties that are relevant to the job as requested by the Chief Executive or Trustees.
Person Specification Experience & Skills
Experience of leading person-centred projects to deliver agreed objectives on time, within budget and to a high standard
Experience of building meaningful and productive working relationships which enhance the provision of services for a community - including direct engagement with families
Experience of and competent in effectively communicating in person and using email and telephone systems
Experience of using Windows operating environments and ability to use word processing and spreadsheet software
Experience and knowledge of financial processes
Experience of working with external partners
A demonstrably strong understanding of autism, with experience or an aptitude for training others in this area
Knowledge of and/or experience within the charity sector
