Passionate about politics and keen to gain hands-on experience in Westminster? Charlotte Cane MP is looking for a motivated Parliamentary Intern to join her team.
This part-time (3 days per week), 12-month role starting in September offers a chance to support Charlotte in representing her constituents and making their voices heard.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
Analyse, evaluate and interpret data to ensure Member is accurately informed on key issues
Assist in writing external communications including speeches for the MP
Assist with and progress casework as required
Assist with arrangements for events: this may include venue research and bookings; compiling and managing guest lists; liaising with suppliers; and providing on-the-day event support.
Assisting the MP by tabling Parliamentary questions, Early Day Motions, and debates to represent constituents' cases in Westminster.
Assisting with diary management
Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate
Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc.
Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
Engage confidentially, professionally, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, email and face to face
Exposure and management of complex cases
Give advice on policy issues
Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business including how they impact on the constituency
Help draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material
Maintain positive on-going relationships with all parties including members of the public, groups, suppliers and Westminster where required
Monitor local, regional and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
Monitor social media activity and report any relevant trends to the Chief of Staff/MP
Progress casework as required
Project Management
Provide generalist admin support
Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Interview/Start Dates
We are planning to hold first stage interviews during week starting 14 July. Interviews will be conducted over MS Teams on a rolling basis. Promising candidates may be interviewed sooner. We recommend that candidates apply ASAP, as the listing may close before the advertised deadline.
