Parts Assistant - Ponton Road (Evening / Night shift)
Salary:
The starting salary is 41,630, which includes allowances totalling 9,750.
The salary is broken down as 31,880 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale 34,108. Plus, a Night Disturbance Allowance of 6,822 and a location allowance of 1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of 1,000.

The police vehicle fleet is an important physical asset. It enables officers and staff to do their job, carries key equipment required, and provides safe transportation for the public / prisoners.
The role of Fleet Services is to keep the Met mobile, ensuring we can detect, respond to, and prevent crime whilst building public trust and confidence. The complex needs of modern policing requires a wide range of vehicle types. We operate a fleet of over 5,200 assets on the road and river, as well as over 1,000 pedal cycles. London is the most complex and diverse city in the UK, and our fleet is reflective of that. We currently have over 220 different types of vehicles supporting all operational commands including armed response vehicles, HGVs, patrol cars, motorbikes and pedal cycles.
Customers can be broadly grouped into three strategic pillars - Frontline Policing, Met Ops & Performance, and Counter Terrorism / Specialist Operations. Collectively this covers pan London requirements as well as national CT responsibilities.
The overall fleet requirements and volumes are owned and governed by operational leaders at the Strategic Fleet Board. Operational teams are accountable for the volume of fleet required to undertake their roles, and Fleet Services support and enable effective decision making through provision of information and technical / industry knowledge.
Key responsibilities
Parts / Materials - Support the Parts Technical Advisors and the Parts / Stores Manager in the effective running of the Stores on a workshop site. Deal with queries, support set up activities for jobs, receive and re-stock shelves, and investigate issues with certain parts
Orders - Raise requisitions and Purchase Orders as directed
Receiving orders - Ensuring delivery notes are as per delivery where items match the order description, quantities are correct, are of merchantable quality and conform to the vehicle manufactures and Metropolitan Police Specifications. Ensure prompt payment for services on MPS systems
Returns - Become proficient in the return of parts to local suppliers, main dealers, manufacturers, being mindful of an effective audit trail, time restraints and costs
Paperwork / System information - Carry out a range of data entry functions on Fleet systems and spreadsheets to ensure data is accurate in regards to parts / materials. Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed and signed and that all records are accurate and up to date.
Stock management - Assisting with regular perpetual inventory stock audits to about 10% of the stock holding and include a monthly tyre count. Regularly monitoring stock trends with a view to increasing and decreasing stock levels and recommend new lines when appropriate depending on usage and vehicle make up
Effective storage of materials - Being mindful of the specialised material and hazardous parts that are used on some of our sites and understanding the way these parts and materials are stored i.e. batteries, paint, solvents, chemical cleaners and general cleaners. Also knowing and understanding the COSHH regulations which relate to this material. Keep stock and non-stock parts stored in clean appropriate bin locations whilst managing obsolete stock and security within the Parts Dept and workshop being able to show audit trails and accountability of all parts.
Health & Safety - In the course of carrying out their duties the individual has a primary responsibility for both their own health and safety and the health and safety of others and should implement and comply with all Health & Safety training and/or requirements. At all times wear the correct personal protective equipment for the task being carried out. Be available and willing to carryout Health & Safety training in line with HSE where applicable including travel to and from external training facilities within MET policies.
Reports - produce various management information / reports to help show what is required on the fleet, any areas not delivering in line with plans, and potential improvements

Fleet Services - Understands how fleet services work
Vehicle Parts - Knowledge of different parts required for a range of vehicles
IT skills - good working knowledge of MS Office applications and competent in using these alongside MPS systems.
Communication skills - Able to communicate effectively (verbal, written, digital), chair meetings and present to team and management. Use of active listening and provision of constructive feedback.
Planning - strong planning and organisation skills
Stock / Parts rooms - Knowledge of stores control procedures and audit trail requirements.
Team Player - Be a proactive team player able to participate in meetings, process telephone calls, provide customer service and provide specialist advice and knowledge.
Records management - Knowledge of how to review, retain and dispose of records and information.
Experience
Parts / Supply Chain - Experience working in parts or supply chain in automotive environment
Payments and financial management - Experience of managing a budget and making payments
Qualifications / Certifications - NVQ/City and Guilds Part 1 and 2 (Craft) or equivalent.
