The Chair of Political Economy at UCL was created in 1827 in memory of David Ricardo, thus establishing the first Department of Economics in England. The Department of Economics has an outstanding international reputation in key areas of current research. The Department offers a number of undergraduate degree programmes, a vigorous undergraduate affiliate student programme, Masters programmes in Economics and Data Science and Public Policy as well as a structured MPhil/PhD programme. UCL Economics is also the home of the CORE project and the James M. and Cathleen D. Stone Centre on Wealth Concentration, Inequality and the Economy, the Centre for microdata methods and practice, the Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration (CReAM), and the UCL Policy Lab, and you will be helping to ensure that our UG and PG provision maximises the synergies between research and education embedded in these initiatives. The Department of Economics at UCL has about 60 regular academic staff, but it is supplemented with full-time research staff and part-time teaching lecturers plus an active programme of academic visitors. There are currently over 1,000 undergraduates and more than 100 graduate students studying in the department.
