The Boat Building Academy is seeking a qualified accountant to manage its financial and management accounting functions. The role is part-time (about
one day per week
), home-based with occasional visits to the charity's Monmouth Beach premises. Flexible working hours are allowed except for monthly reporting and year-end audit preparation.
Responsibilities
Monthly Management Accounts - Prepare a management pack for trustees, including commentary, income statement, balance sheet, and fund statements vs. budget and prior year (from Xero).
Financial Planning - Update the annual financial model and maintain a five-year rolling plan of income projections.
Year-End Accounts - Produce annual financial statements for audit (MS Word format) and finalize them for auditors by January.
Audit Support - Assist the bookkeeper in audit preparation and respond to audit and adviser queries.
Collaboration - Report to the Head of Operations/Principal and liaise with the volunteer Financial Adviser (a former Big 4 partner).
Skills
Qualified Accountant
(e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
Proficient in Xero
accounting software.
Experienced in UK charity accounting
, including Charity SORP, Charities Acts, and
FRS 102
compliance.
Technical setup:
Microsoft-based computer, broadband, and access to the charity's intranet.
Workload:
Typically one day per week, with occasional extra time around monthly close and year-end (January-April).
