Job Description

Job Purpose:

To provide safe, caring, and reliable escort support during school transport for children with Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and vulnerable adults. The role involves working alongside a driver to ensure passengers are transported to and from school or care settings safely, comfortably, and with dignity.

Key Responsibilities:

Escort children and/or vulnerable adults with special needs during daily school runs. Ensure the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of all passengers at all times. Assist with boarding and disembarking from the vehicle, including securing seat belts and any necessary mobility aids (e.g., wheelchairs). Maintain professional and compassionate communication with passengers, families, schools, and transport staff. Monitor passenger behaviour and provide support in accordance with individual care or behaviour plans. Report any incidents, concerns, or issues promptly to the relevant authority (e.g., transport coordinator or safeguarding lead). Ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed in line with local authority policies. Maintain confidentiality and respect the dignity of all passengers. Conduct pre-journey checks related to passenger requirements (e.g., medication, special equipment, or behaviour needs).

Requirements:

Essential:

Compassionate, patient, and responsible attitude. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work with children and adults with a range of special needs, including autism, learning disabilities, and physical disabilities. Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality principles. Ability to remain calm in challenging situations. Reliability and good timekeeping. Ability to work split shifts (morning and afternoon).

Desirable:

Previous experience working with SEN children or vulnerable adults. Basic first aid training. Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete). Enhanced DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) - required for the role.

Training & Support:

Full training and induction will be provided, including safeguarding, health and safety, and passenger assistance protocols. Ongoing support and refresher training will also be available.

Job Types: Part-time, Temp to perm
Contract length: 37-38 weeks

Pay: 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 12 - 30 per week
