Essex Fire Protection Services is a third-party accredited specialist contractor delivering compliant passive fire protection and fire door solutions across London and the South-East. We work with managing agents, housing associations, local authorities, and tier-one contractors on both occupied and live environments, supporting building safety through robust systems, competence, and traceable compliance.
Our work is underpinned by IFC third-party certification, BlueSky auditing, and a strong commitment to the principles of the Building Safety Act and the Golden Thread. We are proud of our reputation for technical integrity, professionalism, and doing things properly.
The Opportunity
Due to a sustained increase in secured and upcoming work, we are looking to appoint an
Estimator
to join our growing team.
This role is central to the business--supporting fire-stopping and fire door projects from enquiry through to handover. You will work closely with our project managers, site teams, and senior leadership to ensure every tender is accurate, compliant, and commercially sound.
If you enjoy working with technical information, value accuracy, and want to see your work contribute directly to safer buildings, this role will suit you well.
Key Responsibilities
Review drawings, specifications, surveys, and tender documentation for fire-stopping and fire door works
Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for labour, materials, access, and preliminaries
Quantify works in line with current standards, manufacturers' guidance, and project-specific requirements
Liaise with clients, suppliers, fire engineers, and internal teams to clarify scope and technical detail
Prepare and submit tenders, including alternative or value-engineered options where appropriate
Ensure all pricing aligns with third-party accreditation requirements (IFC, BlueSky, ASFP best practice)
Support smooth handover to the project delivery team, including clarifying scope and assumptions
What We're Looking For
Previous experience estimating within passive fire protection, fire doors, or a related construction discipline
Strong ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and fire strategies
High attention to detail with a structured and methodical approach
Confident communicator, both written and verbal
Comfortable using Excel and estimating tools
A collaborative mindset, aligned with a quality-driven and compliance-focused business
Knowledge of IFC / Bluesky / ASFP guidance is advantageous, but not essential
Why Join Essex Fire Protection Services?
Competitive salary, dependent on experience
A stable and expanding workload with clear visibility ahead
Supportive, knowledgeable team with direct access to senior leadership
Opportunity to develop within a business recognised for its technical and ethical standards
Be part of a company genuinely committed to raising standards in fire safety
Location & Working Arrangement
This role is primarily office-based at our Laindon (Essex) head office, working closely with the wider commercial, project management, and leadership teams. We value collaboration, technical discussion, and consistency in how our estimates are prepared and reviewed.
That said, for the right candidate, hybrid working arrangements may be considered, subject to experience, competence, and the needs of the business. Any hybrid arrangement would be agreed on an individual basis and reviewed periodically to ensure it continues to support quality, compliance, and team integration.
Interested?
If you are looking for a role where accuracy, integrity, and professionalism genuinely matter, we would welcome your application.
