Job Overview


We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Payroll & Bookkeeping Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely bookkeeping and payroll services to a portfolio of clients across various sectors. The role involves maintaining financial records, processing payroll, and assisting with VAT returns

Key Responsibilities:



Bookkeeping:



Maintain accurate financial records for clients using accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage). Process invoices, receipts, payments, and bank reconciliations. Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with HMRC deadlines. Assist with the preparation of management accounts and year-end financial statements. Liaise with clients to gather documentation and resolve queries.

Payroll:



Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls for multiple clients. Ensure compliance with PAYE, National Insurance, pensions (Auto Enrolment), and statutory payments. Submit RTI (Real Time Information) reports to HMRC. Prepare and distribute payslips and payroll reports. Handle starters, leavers, and changes to employee details. Assist with P60s, P45s, and other payroll-related documentation.

Person Specification:



Essential:



Proven experience in bookkeeping and payroll within an accountancy practice or similar environment. Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and VAT rules. Proficiency in accounting and payroll software. Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills. Ability to manage multiple client deadlines effectively. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable:



AAT Level 3 or above, or equivalent qualification. Experience with cloud-based accounting systems. Familiarity with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme). Knowledge of MTD (Making Tax Digital) requirements.

Pay: 13.50-16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 21 - 35 per week
