Job Description

River Cottage is a multi-faceted business with a cafe, cookery school, accommodation and events space hosting weddings, parties and corporate events. This role will be reporting to the Head of Finance and will be responsible for the co-ordination and processing of monthly Payroll and all aspects of HR Administration throughout the company.

Job Title - Payroll and HR Co-ordinator

Reporting to - Head of Finance

Location - Remote/ River Cottage HQ (Minimum one day a week at HQ in Axminster)

Job Type - Permanent, Part Time 15-24 hours per week across 4/5 mornings

Salary - 35,000 FTE (pro rata'd based on hours)

Job role:

Payroll:

Maintain the payroll system and records by gathering, calculating, and inputting data. (QuickBooks & Square)

Analysis of weekly timesheet submissions to ensure accuracy

Production of monthly payroll

Calculate PAYE and National Insurance liabilities for payment to HMRC.

Calculate statutory leave payments such as SSP/SMP/SPP/SHPP, ensuring compliance with government guidelines

Calculate and administer pension contributions and deductions such as CSAs and DEOs

Control account reconciliation and post payroll entries on QuickBooks and complete statutory reporting monthly/quarterly and or yearly.

HR:

Co-ordinate the recruitment of new staff, assisting the recruiting manager to ensure brand alignment, and collating CV's

Manage recruitment advertising (Website, Indeed, LinkedIn internal communication and other platforms)

Ensuring that the on boarding process is complete for all new starters, including completing compliance and verification checks on right to work, inductions and the transfer of key information for payroll

Contract administration, including preparation of offer letters, contracts of employment and future changes to terms

Maintaining the HR systems by ensuring all data, personnel files and all documentation is uploaded and up to date

Ensuring Managers carry out quarterly staff appraisals

Recording all Training and Health & Safety records, and logging all policy renewals

An understanding of the River Cottage philosophy

Knowledge of current PAYE, NI tax calculations and payroll best practices.

Experience of managing payroll with hourly staff, and shift staff working unusual working patterns

Approachable and professional, as well as a calm head when fielding queries from employees who do not have the same understanding of PAYE and payroll deductions.

Have proven experience of working within a payroll department

HR Experience and up to date knowledge of relevant policies and procedures

Confident onboarding staff, and assisting in the induction process, and supporting managers in performance managing their team where required, and dealing with any grievances.

Good Excel skills to manipulate and provide analysis of large data sets.

Highly organised approach and strong attention to detail and accuracy

Good planning and prioritising skills and able to work to strict deadlines

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Flexibility to support workload and business requirements outside of standard working patterns when required
