Payroll Officer

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Support the wellbeing of our workforce by getting the details right and delivering on time.

As a Payroll Officer, you'll play a key role in delivering a smooth and reliable payroll service. Whether it's solving issues, checking the details or helping shape our new in-house system, your work will have a direct impact on colleagues across the Council.

Working Style:

You'll be based in the Borough for 3 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.

What you'll be doing:

You'll be part of a small, friendly team handling payroll for a wide and varied workforce. As the first point of contact for pay-related queries, you'll support employees, managers and external partners, responding with clarity, empathy and professionalism.

You'll process day-to-day payroll transactions, handle queries around pay and deductions, and run regular and ad-hoc payroll cycles. You'll also manage overpayments, claims and court orders, working carefully to make sure everything is accurate, up-to-date and in line with regulations.

We've recently brought our payroll in-house, so there's also an exciting opportunity to shape how we work going forward. You'll help test and refine our new Oracle payroll system and play a part in developing streamlined processes for the future. You'll be based in the office three days a week.

and Person Specification.

What you'll bring

You'll have a good understanding of payroll systems and statutory processes, including PAYE, National Insurance and pensions, and be confident using Excel for data analysis and reporting.

You'll also bring great attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure - especially when juggling deadlines and data. Experience working with pay calculations, payroll data and handling queries is essential, and you'll be someone who takes pride in getting things right.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who shares our values of putting communities first, respect, integrity and working together.
