Job Overview



You'll be working closely with our director and clients to manage a varied payroll portfolio and handle VAT returns with precision and efficiency. This is a perfect role if you thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy autonomy in your work.

Key Responsibilities:



Run weekly/monthly/4-weekly payrolls via BrightPay/Moneysoft or approved third party payroll softwre by HMRC for multiple clients. Submit FPS/EPS, handle zeroising, and create tailored reports. Manage auto-enrolment pensions, especially via NEST. Prepare and submit VAT returns under MTD rules. Support CIS deductions and monthly returns. Respond to HMRC queries and liaise directly with clients to gather payroll and VAT data. File confirmation statements for limited companies on Companies House. Assist with company formations and basic company secretarial work. Draft letters and emails to clients and HMRC (e.g. P45 requests, appeals, queries). Answer client phone calls and follow up on queries confidently. Maintain clear records and manage deadlines without being chased.

What You'll Need



Strong hands-on experience with BrightPay -- must be confident processing payrolls independently across weekly, monthly, and four-weekly frequencies.

Good understanding of auto-enrolment duties, especially using NEST, and the ability to manage pension uploads without supervision.

Confidence in dealing with HMRC -- including submitting FPS/EPS, responding to PAYE/VAT queries, and understanding common compliance requirements.

Excellent communication skills -- able to speak professionally with clients over the phone, follow up clearly, and draft appropriate email responses.

Highly organised and reliable -- must be able to manage multiple deadlines without being reminded or supervised closely.

Practical knowledge of VAT return preparation and submission under MTD rules.

Experience with CIS deductions and returns (or willingness to learn quickly).

Ability to draft formal letters and emails to clients and HMRC (P45s, appeals, notices).

Familiarity with Companies House filings, especially confirmation statements.

Responsibilities



Process payroll for all employees accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain employee records, ensuring all data is up to date and compliant with regulations. Perform data entry tasks related to payroll, including hours worked, deductions, and bonuses. Collaborate with the HR department to manage employee benefits and resolve payroll-related inquiries. Assist in the preparation of reports for management analysis, including payroll summaries and tax information. Utilise accounting software such as QuickBooks or PeopleSoft for payroll processing and reporting. Conduct regular audits of payroll data to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance with company policies. Support accounts payable functions as needed, ensuring seamless financial operations within the organisation.

Skills



Proficient in data entry with a high level of accuracy. Experience with accounting software, particularly QuickBooks or PeopleSoft. Familiarity with HRIS systems and human resources processes. Strong analytical skills to interpret data effectively and make informed decisions. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing individual responsibilities. Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail in all aspects of work. Knowledge of Workday or similar platforms is advantageous but not essential.
